Walk-away media preparation system
An elegant automated solution for all laboratories faced with the task of preparing media has been introduced by Integra Biosciences. Traditionally many molecular biology labs have relied on the cumbersome and time-consuming method of manually preparing media including agar plates for clone selection and test-tubes of broth for Miniprep DNA analysis. Now, the unique combination of Integra’s Mediajet automated Petri dish pourer and the Tubefiller accessory provides an integrated automated solution that satisfies all the media preparation needs of molecular biology laboratories. The compact Petri dish filler provides truly reliable, walk-away operation and uses a proven mechanical dish guidance system, monitored by a set of sensors throughout the filling process. Operational downtime and media loss due to ‘dish jams’ resulting from variations in the diameter, shape and rim profile of the disposable plastic Petri dishes are completely eliminated. Through its “Media Spread” function, which minimises the agar level in each Petri dish, the new system enables up to 30% savings on media use compared to traditional systems. The Tubefiller part of the combination is a highly productive alternative to the tedious and time consuming task of manual tube filling. At the push of a button the system provides continuous processing of racks of test tubes. Ergonomic in design, the system accommodates test tubes of many different diameters, thus making it suitable for dispensing liquids for a wide range of applications including production of agar slants, broth cultures and NaCl dilutions.
