Over the past decade, differential mobility spectrometry
(DMS) like its counterpart ion mobility spectrometry (IMS),
has seen a steady growth in the applications for which the
technique is being used. One particularly active field is in
the analysis of volatile organic compounds (VOCs).
Recently DMS has been combined with GC thus offering
an additional order of information with respect to retention
time for detection of VOCs. This review article provides an
overview of the DMS technique and illustrates several
applications of GC-DMS for the analysis of VOCs.
